Whittingham C of E First School
The Skipping Festival

You may have heard that one slushy wet morning Class 2 travelled to the sports centre in Alnwick, on a huge bus.

When we arrived at the Sports Centre we climbed upstairs and placed our coats on the floor. After that we went downstairs and sat in a square on the floor. Funnily enough I saw my old friend. We were then put into groups - I was in A. The first activity we all did together. We found a space and started doing lots of exciting skips! After that we walked in to our groups. For a moment I thought I was by myself! Then I saw Ellie, Fern and Robbie. Unfortunately it was running into the rope. Oh no! It was really scary but I knew I had to do it I ran… and I made it! We did lots more things like that but I did not like it. Finally the whistle blew and we swapped activities - I was glad.

The next activity was with a partner. I went with Ellie. Also we decided to go in the corner where there was lots of room. Ellie swung the rope while we both jumped – it was a lot of fun.

The next activity we did was fancy skips. I found them all easy apart from one, which I kept bruising myself with. We then watched one of the teachers demonstrate fancy skips. Before I knew it, it was time to go. We then travelled back to school in time for lunch.

One wet, cold and snowy day, we all climbed on to a long, big bus. The bus led us to a skipping centre in Alnwick. I was surprised to see six schools there! First we picked up a skipping rope and did a warm up. After a while we did some activities. Then we got put in to groups A,B,C There were different activities to do. There was long rope, single skip, double skip and cross skip.

Once when we all did the activities we all sat in a square on the floor a woman did lots of cool trick. I was amazed! Afterwards we got a drink of water. Then we went back on the bus to school.

The Skipping Festival The Skipping Festival

One marvellous day we climbed aboard the long bus to get to Alnwick. On the bus I counted the signs. After there was 232 signs! If you go to Alnwick start at Whittingham school. How many do you see? Anyway, back to reality. After a while we finally made it. We walked into the gym and want upstairs and their was loads of people! We went to the gym and sat in a square. We got a skipping rope. We did a long warm-up. After we were put in to 3 groups A,B and C my group was B. First we did two people skipping, skilful skipping and long rope skipping. Two people skipping was the hardest one. I was with Jacob. Jacob is my best friend. He was in group B as well. Skilful skipping is hard. Long rope was is simple.

Then we set back off to school. When we got back to school we had lunch it was delicious.

The Skipping Festival

It was unbelievable that we were going to the skipping festival. We were on the bus, and we were travelling and it was noisy. It took about twenty- two minutes to get there. When we got there, there were a, lot of children there. It was fantastic although it was hard work. We had little breaks [we were walking to our drinks.] And at the end we went back to a square again, and we went upstairs. We had a banana – it was delicious. We had a fabulous day and we went back to the bus, and when we got back to school we had a good lunch and then we had a play time and now we are writing a recount. And the day was brilliant.
