Our Trip To Segedunum

We went on a trip to Segedunum to find out a bit more about the Romans and we had a fantastic time. We went into the museum, around the fort and into the viewing tower which one of our pupil's dad helped to design.

Mrs. Molloy took a photo of our group in front of standards that the soldiers carried in battle. One had the emperor's head, one had a flag and two had dragon heads on them to make the enemy scared and think that real dragons had come to fight them instead of the Romans!

We went to a bathhouse where the Romans go to get clean. We found out that they would go in to the bathhouse at set times, like men at different times from women. They had a big fire to heat up the baths. There was a hot bath and a cold bath called a fridgidarium. They would put oil on them to get all of the dirt off and then scrape it off. This was made into women's face cream!

We saw some Roman toilets and you used a sponge on a stick to wipe your bottom and there was a tub with water in it to clean your sponge!

We had a workshop about how to be a Roman soldier. To start off the workshop
Mrs. Baxter got dressed up as a Roman soldier. To protect their head under the gold helmet, they wore a pixie hat.

We had to learn the oath, "we will do what ever may be ordered and be ready at every command." We learned to march and polish our shields.

Some of us dressed up in clothes the Romans wore. The materials they used were wool, linen and leather. They wore a soft top and the ladies wore a shawl when they worked on the farm.
