We held our Harvest Festival Service in St. Bartholomew's Church. We performed a play about Nashilu and her son Layeni who lived in a small village in Kenya.
Layeni got sick so Nashilu had to walk miles to a hospital in the next town to see a doctor. He gave her some medicine and told her how to use it. By the time she got home she had forgotten and she couldn't read the instructions. Then she had to go to the next village to see the vicar so he could read the instructions for her. The vicar also said she could come along to reading classes for women like Nashilu to help her learn to read. She hurried home with the medicine and her good news

We also showed how important it is to be able to read and write. How could you make up a bottle for your baby if you couldn't read the instructions? How could you read a party invitation or write a cheque?
